Many in KW and beyond have memories (as hazy as they may be) of a long stairwell lined with posters that lead to the smoky venue, Pop the Gator. At the end of this stairwell blues-lovers were enveloped by the sounds of greats like Mel Brown, Shawn Kellerman, Steve Strongman, and the likes. Notes bouncedpurchase tickets smaller around the venue’s 15 foot tin ceilings and were quickly absorbed by music-lovers drinking and rocking along, shoulder to shoulder.
Pop the Gator brought the music community together to support and establish emerging artists in the 80s and left a footprint on the arts community.

The spirit of Pop the Gator is returning as an event series called, “Pop the Gator Presents…” Glenn Smith, who owned the original venue, is organizing shows at THEMUSEUM, bringing great music acts back to downtown Kitchener. As the city has grown, so too has the music scene and tastes. Prepare to welcome some incredible rock, country, and rockabilly acts to downtown Kitchener.
